The Wiener Riesenrad is a 64.75-metre (212 ft) tall Ferris wheel at the entrance of the Prater amusement park.
It was built by the English engineer Walter Bassett Bassett as part of the celebration of the 50 year jubilee of Emperor Franz Joseph.
Built in 1897, the Viennese giant wheel held the world record height between 1920 and 1985. It is the oldest Ferris wheel still active.
The Prater is a large public park located in Leopoldstadt, the second district of Vienna, Austria.
